What is nLeyten anyway?

In a nutshell: a community that brings together all those interested in a variety of topics loosely connected to the ideals of the Enlightenment: rationalism, humanism, progress, science, and the improvement of human condition.

The format will that of a web magazine, with content provided by the readers. There will be several different sorts of content: news, op-eds, articles, interviews, and even fiction. The topics will be diverse, as we take a very broad view on the motto of the site.

So what?, the reader may ask. Indeed, the Internet has sprouted a countless variety of communities, some even within the same topic range. How will nLeyten be different? Foremost because we intend to put special attention on the algorithms governing the dynamics of the site. From the moderation system to the selection of published pieces, our aim is to build a community support system resistant to the "noise" (e.g. trolls, sock-puppets, and various sorts of juvenile behaviour) that more-often-than-not plagues online communities. But that's not all -- we also have a few surprises in store...
