And now for something completely amazing (or the beginning thereof)
I previously reported on the upcoming new version of the KDE project. Today, version 4.0 was officially released. See the announcement, take a guide tour of the new features, and follow the discussion at the "Dot".
There's still a few rough edges here and there, and is not as functional as 3.5.8 (yet!). It is therefore targeted mainly at developers and enthusiasts. Regular users should wait until 4.1 till they decide to make it their main desktop. It is however, without a doubt, the beginning of something amazing...
You can of course try it out immediately without having to install anything onto your computer thanks to the variety of live CDs that are being released. The Kubuntu folks have one out and so do of course the OpenSuse guys. Other distros are following suit as we speak.
Anyway, congratulations are in order to all the developers of the KDE project! I can't believe it's been almost 10 years since I first installed one of the betas for KDE 1.0. We've sure come a long way... (World domination proceeding as scheduled).
